Campobello Island Day Trip:

I had wanted to visit the Roosevelt “cottage” on Campobello Island for some time, and was delighted to be able to take a zodiac ride there, all organized by the Jolly Breeze outfit down on St. Andrew’s harbour. All the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. When I reached the island I was met by Peter, who took myself and the other passenger directly to the Roosevelt place where we had “Tea with Eleanor” – an hour-long, fascinating introduction to this generous woman. Then we toured the house, after a short video. We spent the rest of the day touring the beautiful island with Peter, and saw seals, bald eagles and some fin-backed whales. This was a great day!

We Loved our Visit to Campobello with Peter:

The organizer of our trip to Canada enthusiastically recommended our Campobello all day excursion within days of him experiencing the self same trip – and it was absolutely wonderful. Having taken the thirty minute water taxi with Ryan from Saint Andrews to Campobello on a sunny and calm day we were met by our island host, Peter, for a van trip over the island. Peter is a real treasure who clearly loves the island which has been his home for twelve years or so. Peter takes you to all the key locations and explains the history of each in a lively, humorous and enlightened way. We’ve been on many day tours when you’re mentally exhausted by lunchtime having been challenged to absorb far too much information but not so with Peter who has the knack of just ‘getting it right’. After three hours we all had a tasty lunch together before Peter showed us a little more of the island, and explained the connection with the Roosevelt family before driving us for ‘Tea with Eleanor’ – another highlight. We then drove to the exquisite Roosevelt Cottage for a tour around the property. We finally meandered back to the harbour to be reunited with our water taxi for our return to the mainland at around five o’clock. An absolutely brilliant day!

Campobello Water Taxi. WOW!

What a taxi ride. Took about 25 minutes to Campobello. They used the hi speed whale watching boat. Ride over was outstanding. People were very nice and took care of everything. Ride back at the end of the day was just as enjoyable. Very quick. No whales to see but then this was not a whale watching tour. Many whales to be seen out there on the other side of the island. Family run business and they do a Great job. Highly recommend.
